Faculty Positions

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Indiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computer Science at the rank of Assistant Professor. Appointment begins August 2019; spring appointment as lecturer is possible depending on departmental need. Applicants are expected to have a strong interest in teaching and scholarship and must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related area by August 2019. The standard teaching/research load at Indiana State is equivalent to twelve credit hours per semester. Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contribute to the academic well-being of the department and university, and continue their research program. We encourage applicants with expertise in all areas of Computer Science, with a preference for those with expertise to either fill areas of need (Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Database and Data Science) or complement existing strengths (Theory, Bioinformatics).

The Computer Science programs have a current enrollment of 120 BS students and 34 MS students. The department is in the process of developing a new MS program in data science & analytics, a minor in computer science education, and a revision to the CS BS. Computer Science faculty have a history of collaborating on research and teaching with ISU faculty and Ph.D. students in biology, physics, geography, technology, mathematics, and other areas. With the rollout of new programs and potential retirements in the future, the person who fills this position stands to have a significant influence on the future directions of the department and Computer Science programs. Student activities currently supported by the department include paid summer research with faculty, participation in the ACM intercollegiate programming contest, and an active student chapter of the ACM. In addition to our degrees in Computer Science, the Department also offers BS degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and MS and MA degrees in Mathematics.
