retake multiple times, make sure to submit/ok before the deadline.
- Homework - due Tuesday by midnight, we will talk about how to hand in
on Monday.
- Office hours - today in this room 4-5pm
- Did everyone do the reading for today?
- Go to your computers and type along as the lecture goes. Rule: work
with the same person as last time (if possible) and switch who is at
the keyboard.
- Do the following in JES/Python and then I will explain some more:
arithmetic, "strings", print, variables.
- How to in Python: basic arithmetic (+, -, *, /, %) with both integers
and "floats" (numbers with decimal points).
- How to in Python: "strings" (a sequence of characters/letters, including
concatenation (+).
- How to in Python: print using the print function.
- How to in Python: variables - a name for a spot in the computer's
memory where you store something (integer, string, etc). How to put
something into that spot, how to read what is in that spot in memory.
- Do the following in JES/Python and then I will explain some more:
pictures
- How to in JES (not standard Python, specific to JES): get the name of
a file (a location on your hard disk), load the picture file into
memory, display the picture on the screen.
- How to in JES: load a sound file into memory, play the sound.
- Watch out for bugs! misspelling, wrong capitalization, putting things
in the wrong order (e.g., 4 = x is wrong), ...
- Did everyone get JES installed on their home computers?
- The assigned reading for the next lecture, what we will talk
about next time - how data and pictures are stored on the computer, and
how to do pictures in JES.
- Remember to take the quiz before next lecture.
