How the online section (section 301) will function Student requirements - must have regular access to a computer with a good internet connection - taking exams will require a Windows or MacOS computer with the ability to install the testing application. - must be able to install programs on this computer - must be able to spend at least 5-8 hours per week on this course spread out over multiple days. HW assignments - normally due Sunday or Wednesday by 11:59pm - will normally include a link to a video explaining the assignment and giving a demo of the correct solution - will normally give 48 hours notice between an assignment being assigned and when it is due Quizzes - are given a 24 hour window during which to take the quiz - normally take place on Mondays - open notes, open internet, but you are not allowed to communicate with or get help from anyone Attendance/discussion - CS server - required to login to the CS server at least twice each week and be logged in for at least an hour total each week Attendance/discussion - mattermost/judy.indstate.edu - required to have at least three posts on judy.indstate.edu (mattermost) each week - to make it easy for me to give you credit for posts, label your first three posts per week with "points", so a post to ask about HW1 would be something like "points: HW1 - I wasn't able to login, ..." - posts can be questions or answers to other people's questions - okay to ask for hints about HW's without asking for complete solutions - get started and try things out without asking for help, but ask for help when you're stuck - okay to answer questions as long as you are not responding with complete solutions - do not share code electronically. if you want someone to take a look at your code you need that to be one of the instructors or lab assistants. Exams - Exams will be on the computer, closed-notes, no internet. They will be given through blackboard and a testing service. More details when the exams are closer. - Taking exams will require a Windows or MacOS computer with the ability to install the testing application. Office hours - for Jeff's regular office hours (in my office for those who are on campus), I will also be logged in and checking mattermost - also normally logged in and checking mattermost Sunday, Wednesday 8-10pm, and will adjust these days/times if needed. Lectures - will be listed under Resources/Links / Video Links - videos will normally be 5-20 minutes in length - will post code or notes from the lectures either in the CS wiki or in file(s) in the class code directory, will leave a note in the video metadata - target is for 1-3 hours of lecture videos per week. GA help - is available in person in CS Unix lab - GAs should be logged in and checking mattermost when they are on duty in the lab, so if you post on mattermost during business hours you should get a response reasonably quickly. Grading - items will normally be graded within 1 week of being due.
