Jkinnehttps://cs.indstate.edu/wiki/index.php?title=Lecture_Recording&diff=29&oldid=prevJkinne: how to create lecture recordings2018-09-04T16:51:55Z
how to create lecture recordings

New page

This page contains information and links about creating lecture/video recordings. This information is current as of 2018.

== Recording Tips ==
However you are recording, make sure you have a way to pause and start recording again. Also, do a small test recording to make sure the audio is being recorded properly.

== Screen Recording Tips ==
Students might be viewing the videos on a tablet or other screen that is not high resolution. To ensure text, etc. in the video is not too small, set your screen resolution to be something small-ish before starting a screen recording. Something around 1280 x 800 is a good bet.

== Hosting Videos ==
Videos can be posted to YouTube, or to Yuja within one of your courses in blackboard.

== Yuja (Windows or Mac) ==
Yuja is the current ISU-supported software for creating recordings and having them tied to your courses. Log in to blackboard for your course, click on "Tools" on the left, then click on "Yuja" (scroll down to see it). Click "Create Recording". If you have not recorded with Yuja on your computer, click the download link to install the software.

With the software installed click "Start Recording". Put in a title and description. On the top right click "Save to my library" to choose where the video should be saved (select a course if this is for a course). On the left choose which video and audio streams will be recorded. The default is normally to have the screen and microphone recording, and to have the webcam recording (if you have one). Once you start recording there will be an icon in your system tray / toolbar which you can use to pause or stop your recording.

Once you have clicked stop, Yuja will upload your video to where you selected. If you did not choose a course you can click around in Yuja in your web browser to view your videos (click "Upload and Manage" in Yuja).

You can also upload recordings to Yuja, if you prefer to create the videos with some other software (e.g, ShareX) and then post them to Yuja inside of Blackboard.

== Quicktime (Mac) ==
You can use Quicktime on the Mac to record the screen. Start Quicktime (from Finder, then Applications). Click "File" and then "New Screen Recording". Click the record button to start recording. Click again to start recording, or click/drag to select a part of the screen to record. Right when you start recording, type escape. You will see the small recording window. Press and hold the option key; you should see the stop button become a pause button; click the pause button to pause; click it again to start recording again.

When you are done recording click the stop button. Click "File" and then "Export As" and then 1080p or 720p. Save the file somewhere, and upload it to wherever you want it uploaded. Note that it will be saved as a .mov file.

== ShareX (Windows) ==
[https://getsharex.com ShareX] is a reasonable free program that can also be used on Windows to create screen recordings.
Jkinne
