Welcome to admitted students who plan to major in computer science. Here are some answers to common questions and pointers to information about registering for courses, etc.

Getting back to this page - cs.indstate.edu (or web search for Indiana State University computer science), link in twitter feed.

Types of jobs/careers - Developer, programmer, administrator, etc. at organizations like these.

Types of projects in your courses - Fall 2021 Project Showcase

Overview of the major and minor - CS Major, CS Minor, Course sequence, Graphical overview

Concentrations - See the link to the CS Major above, and also here.

Campus jobs and internships - Many CS majors work on campus for the Office of Information Technology and other units with computing needs; see jobs.indstate.edu for postings. CS students find off campus positions through multiple career fairs on campus each year, postings sent from CS faculty, or checking companies you want to work for to see if they have positions (or using job search websites like indeed.com or personal networks on LinkedIn).

Which CS course to start with - Information science concentration requires CS 101 Fundamentals of Computing, other concentrations do not. The CS 151 placement test helps decide if you are ready for CS 151 Introduction to Computer Science.

Get a head start - If you just cannot wait, CS 101 and CS 151 are offered online asynchronous in the summer, classes start May 16. Any free online tutorials on Python programming would also be a good start.

Computer requirement? Windows/Mac/Linux preferred, though can make do with a Chromebook as well. Linux CS lab is available for use during business hours. See here for more.

Related majors/minors - Information Technology, Cyber and Security Studies, Mathematics, General Studies (2 minors). See the list of programs.

More information See cs.indstate.edu.
