August 20, 2021 The online office hour video has been made available on Zoom's Cloud Recording tab. I demonstrated how to log in with your account (using the Terminal), and I also demonstrated how to use the handin program. ***** EDIT (8/21) ***** You can access the Zoom Cloud recording tab by going to the Blackboard page for this course, then on the left side of the page, there should be a link titled "Zoom Meetings." Click on that, then click on the "Cloud Recordings" Tab, and you will see it there. *********************** Thursday's lecture in the in-person section has also been made available. We talked more about UNIX, and we also had a very early look at programming in C. We will soon be writing programs in the C Language, and that will be the main focus of this class. Generally, lectures/Zoom Recordings will be made available within a few hours after being recorded. The Syllabus is mostly finalized. Your class grade will go something like this 20% - Homework 20% - Quizzes 50% - Exams 10% - Attendance(for 002) / Weekly Check-In (for 301) There will be homework most weeks, expect quizzes to happen often as well. Section 002 will have quizzes in-class, details on delivery of quizzes in Section 301 are still TBD. If you are in Section 002, attendance is required. For Section 301 ONLY: Starting next week, you will be required to check in with me at least once of week, just to make sure you are making progress in the class. When checking in, just let me know how things are going with the class. You can check in the following three ways. 1. Come in during my Lab Hours, you can either join my lab via Zoom, or come see me at the Unix Lab at Room A015 in Root Hall. My Lab Hours are as follows: MWF 1-2, 3-4 TR 11-12 2. Come in during my Open Office Hour via Zoom, usually on Thursdays from 7-8PM 3. If neither of those work, you can send an email (preferably from your ISU email) to jcompton5@sycamores.indstate.edu. Make sure to make your subject "CS256-301: Check In". However you do it, you must do this once a week, this is a part of your overall class grade. I also recommend changing your password to something more secure than the passwords you have now. Run the "passwd" command to do just that. Finally, expect an assignment on Unix Commands sometime next week. We will soon start writing programs in the C Language. John
