September 24, 2021 Some important items to go over..... * Assignment h5 was released yesterday. There's no new material on this assignment, it's mainly a review of things we've done so far this semester. This should be a good review for the midterm. That assignment is due October 3 at 11:59PM EDT, but If I were you, I'd get started on the assignment as soon as possible. * Assignment h4 is still due on September 28 at 11:59PM EDT. In the Week 6 Online office hour video, I give some hints on how to do this assignment. I wrote some pseudocode that shows what you need to do to complete the assignment, you just need to translate that code into C code. I will not extend the due date of this assignment any further, so please try to finish this by the 28th. Ask for help, if needed. * In the Online Office Hour video, I also went over Quiz 2 in detail, and I posted the solutions to Quiz 2 in the quiz folder of the In-Class Code. * On Quiz 2: I am allowing you to retake Quiz 2. This quiz 2 will be different from the old Quiz 2, but covers the same stuff and is about the same difficulty level. This quiz is password protected, you should have gotten an email sent to your ISU email that has the password to your quiz If you do better on this retake, your new score will replace the old score. If you do worse this time around, your score will not change. If you're happy with your score, then you don't have to take it, but I highly recommend that you take this retake. This can only help your grade. Have the quiz retakes in by October 3 @ 11:59PM. Also note: one of the most common errors I saw was people forgetting their semi-colons at the end of their statements. Please don't forget to include the semi-colons at the end! * Dr. Sternfeld and I have to have Interim grades in by 4PM on the 28th (next Tuesday). Your grade will be based on homework, the quizzes and whether or not you've been checking-in/staying active in class/ or attending class(if you are in the in-person section). * Midterm season is upon us! For both sections, plan on having a "fake midterm" sometime next week. This "fake midterm" will be similar to the actual midterm. My plan is that if you do the fake midterm, and make a good-faith effort to do the problems, I'll give you full-credit, regardless of how many you get right. Expect the real midterm to take place the week of October 3. * I posted a Zoom Video on the Cloud Recordings tab that talks about two possible problems that could show up on the midterm. These problems were also talked about in the lecture from the 21st, but my video also has visuals of what was done. * Lastly, for the Online Students, there is a strong possibility that I may have you schedule an appointment with me either via zoom or in-person for a brief 15-20 minute meeting going over things we've done in class so far. More details on that will be released at a later date. That should about cover it for now. Hope everyone has a good weekend! John
