Areas of Research
Theory, Algorithms, Combinatorics The following are faculty who are active in research in theory, algorithms, and combinatorics: Arash Rafiey, Geoff Exoo, and Jeff Kinne. Recent results have come in the areas of: graph algorithms, optimization, extremal graph theory, structural graph theory, structural complexity, derandomization, and circuit lower bounds. Research is funded in part by this NSF award.
Bioinformatics The following are faculty who are active in research in bioinformatics / computational biology: Jeff Kinne, and Arash Rafiey and with collaborators from the Department of Biology and The Center for Genomic Advocacy. Recent results have come in the areas of: differential gene expression analysis related to cardiac development, next-gen sequence processing and analysis, and biological optimization. Research is funded in part by an NIH grant Biomedical Big Data For ISU.
Other Areas The faculty work in other areas as time and the interests of students permit. The most popular areas recently have been machine learning and data science.
